We walked the same paths at Covenant University in Nigeria, earning our degrees, colleges apart, faces familiar, lives not yet intertwined. Quietly noting each other’s presence, and in His perfect way, God said: Not yet.

It waited after the 4 years in school and many years later, until a special 24th of April, Ruth’s birthday, when a certain someone slid into her DMs with a simple “Happy birthday Ruth 🎈, cheers!!”. We didn’t know it then, but that one message was the first sentence of a love story written long before either of us could read it.

Conversations deepened. Trips across continents began. And in the little details, the timing, the peace, the quiet certainty, we kept finding the fingerprints of God. There were moments of healing, moments of wonder, and the slow, beautiful unfolding of the greatest love story we had ever witnessed up close.

This is what it means to find your Ezer. The Hebrew word that carries the weight of strength, rescue, and life-giving power. It is the word God used to describe Himself as helper and shield to Israel, the same meaning Jesus reached for when He called the Holy Spirit the Paraclete, the one called alongside to help and sustain. It is the same word God breathed over the woman in Genesis 2:18, placing her not behind the man, not beneath him, but beside him as his perfect counterpart. A companion shaped in the very image of how God helps.

To love like this is to catch a glimpse of how God loves us, relentlessly, intentionally, across every distance. We both found each other, we found our Ezer.

As the saying goes, the rest is history. But we prefer to say: history is only just getting started 😉.
